Many of the robust properties of warehouse floors can be attributed to the coatings used in the flooring system. Are you keen on transforming your warehouse into the streamlined, sturdy storage and transit hub it’s meant to be? The following coatings will assist you in this mission.

Need only a topcoat or a new flooring system?

Customers often ask us: is applying one or more layers of coatings on the existing floor or substrate sufficient, or is it better to install a completely new flooring system? Below, we explain what the optimal choice is in each situation and which coatings are suitable.

1. Coating(System)

Applying a single coating or a multi-layer coating system is sufficient when the existing floor or substrate is well leveled. However, the presence of minor, superficial scratches is not a problem. It is essential, though, that the substrate offers good adhesion. To ensure proper adhesion of the coating or system, we recommend an adhesion test. Inquire about the possibilities for a test at your location.

If the above criteria are met, there are several suitable options.

Recommended HIM systems:

One or two layers of HIM FC130 when applied on existing epoxy or polyurethane flooring systems. For application on concrete or sand-cement floors, two to three layers are recommended. This water-dispersed two-component epoxy floor coating forms a matte, colored finishing layer after curing, making the floor moisture-resistant and resistant to commonly used chemicals;

Two layers of HIM FC450 NP. This coating is also liquid-tight and easy to apply. HIM FC450 NP is a colored epoxy floor coating with a very high dry film content. This results in greater thickness and therefore greater wear resistance against, for example, forklifts and foot traffic.

2. New flooring system

If the warehouse floor is inadequately leveled or the current substrate does not provide the necessary adhesion, applying a new flooring system is the best, most cost-effective, and most practical solution.

In spaces where strong and durable usage properties are crucial, we often recommend epoxy floors.

Recommended HIM system:

HIM SL2000, finished with a sealer to improve scratch resistance, UV resistance, and the like. A decorative finish is also possible. HIM SL2000 is preceded by an epoxy primer/scratch coat to level the substrate and make it liquid-tight.

If a warehouse floor needs to withstand heavy loads, a trowel floor is the best choice.

Recommended HIM system:

HIM TF9000, finished with (thixotropic) sealer HIM DS Thixo, followed by a matte finish (HIM FC130 or HIM FC240). If a colored finish is desired, use HIM FC 450 Thixo; no finish is required with this option.

Additional options

In addition to the quality properties mentioned above, the coating and flooring systems can be enhanced with:

Markings and signage (suitable coating: HIM LMP)

Anti-slip properties (by adding anti-slip powder to the system)

Download our product data sheets

Do you want to know exactly what to expect from our coatings?
