Are you planning to coat your wall? HIM has the perfect epoxy wall coating for you! That way you are assured of a wall that is optimally protected and can be cleaned much faster and more efficiently. In this article we tell you what you should pay attention to before and during application.
Has your wall been coated before, but does the coating need replacing? Not all coatings are compatible. The safest way is to remove the existing coating. The alternative is an adhesion test on a small surface.
Because a wall coating system is very thin, the surface must be flat and even. Irregularities in the substrate will remain visible after coating. Moreover, the coating will wear earlier where the surface is protruding, as a result of which the color of the coating and the appearance will change.
Light sanding beforehand improves adhesion. A dry, dust and grease-free substrate is essential for adhesion between the substrate and the epoxy wall coating.
Our epoxy wall coatings are water-based and therefore benefit from a good drying process. It is important that the relative humidity is not higher than 80% and the room is well ventilated.
As with any other coating, you get the best result when the wall coating is applied without streaks. If the applied coat is too thick or uneven, dripping marks will occur. For the best result apply two coats with a roller. The usage is approximately 150 grams per m2 per coat..
If you apply the wall coating on a surface with a porous/absorbent substrate such as concrete, plaster and stucco, it is advisable to dilute the coating for the first layer with 5 to 10% water. This layer acts as a primer.
The first layer must have cured sufficiently before applying the second layer. With optimum processing conditions, the drying time is approximately 16 hours. You can then apply the second layer. The coating is fully cured after one week.
