For many companies, a Liquid-Tight Facility Declaration is more than just a legal obligation; it is a crucial investment in environmental protection and business continuity. It plays a key role in preventing soil contamination by hazardous substances. This certification involves an inspection every six years by an accredited inspection body, in accordance with the AS SIKB 6700 guidelines.
This requirement applies to companies handling liquids that pose a risk to soil and groundwater. Examples include gas stations, chemical plants, paint manufacturers, petroleum processors, car washes, printing companies, automotive repair shops, and transport companies with on-site fuel storage.
Korthals Lakfabriek, which is part of the Korthals Group alongside HIM Products, also falls under these regulations. Our paint production facility and warehouse are equipped with recognized liquid-tight facilities in accordance with AS SIKB 6700, inspected by ABV Haukes Inspectiediensten.
Inspections conducted under SIKB protocols are primarily visual but extremely thorough. Inspectors assess surfaces for liquid penetration, deformation, cracks, and mechanical damage. Special attention is paid to seals – both in the floor and at vertical connections. Drainage systems are also checked for defects and potential leakage points.
Beyond the visual inspection, the inspector may request documentation: design and as-built drawings, specifications, material specifications (including chemical resistance), and product certificates. These serve to prove that the correct materials were chosen and applied properly.
Did the inspection reveal defects? In that case, the surface in question must be repaired until it is fully liquid-tight or liquid-resistant once again.
Our Contribution to Liquid-Tight Solutions HIM Products offers various products that assist in creating liquid-tight facilities. For instance, HIM Coving Mastic is frequently used to create coved skirtings and seamless transitions between floors and walls – exceptionally suited for preventing leaks at seals. For a waterproof finish on both floors and walls, HIM FW is ideal: a 2-component epoxy coating that provides optimal protection.
With our own experience as a paint and floor coating manufacturer, we understand the challenges of these obligations. For companies dependent on this certification, choosing the right materials and partners from the start is essential – not only to achieve certification but also to ensure long-term environmental protection and operational continuity.
We would be happy to discuss the possibilities with you personally. We can review your specific situation and advise you on the best solutions for your company. Contact us to schedule a no-obligation appointment.
